Angus Macpherson, 1952, Albuquerque, NM. Macpherson currently paints in his second story studio atop his home in Albuquerque, New Mexico where he is living with his wife, Melissa, and their two daughters. Away from his native New Mexico in 1995 and 1996, Macpherson's studio was in Antwerp, Belgium.

Angus Macpherson has established such a solid reputation as a landscape painter that it's a particular pleasure to see what else he's been up to for 20 years. His sunny palette and peculiarly textured surfaces do lend themselves to the kind of rainstorms, cloudbanks, etc. that he alone can conjure. But Macpherson's investigations also extend to the human figure, and I think the best of these figure paintings are among his most appealing pieces...

Wesley Pulkka, art critic from THE ALBUQUERQUE JOURNAL, Sept. 6, 1998 ... Angus Macpherson's new exhibition at the Dartmouth Street Gallery takes risks and moves in positive new directions. Macpherson has been very successful in sales and recognition for many years. Success puts special pressures on artists and prevents many of them from allowing natural evolution to appear in their work. His new collection reveals a completely new perspective and refreshing change in one of Albuquerque's most consistent painters. A few years ago, while looking at Macpherson's rain-riddled skies I found myself getting lost in memories of my motorcycle trip to the Breckenshire Moutains in Wales. The landscapes in the current show, with their dizzying bird's-eyeview, thicket closeups and dense forests, conjure thoughts of the Canadian wilds and old New Mexico before continuous construction took over. Surprisingly, there are also several well-wrought figurative interiors. His new figurative works have taken his post-European nocturnal urban landscapes indoors.
